Functionalities
Here a list of the functionalities offered by Audacity, the free audio editor. For more information concerning the use of these functions, consult the pages of assistance.
Recording
Audacity can record on line sounds resulting from a microphone or a mixette, but also digitize your audio cassettes, discs vyniles and diskettes. With certain charts sounds, it can also seize audio flows.
- Record starting from a microphone, of an entry on line, or good of other sources still.
- Postsynchronize existing tracks to make a recording of it multitrack.
- Record to 16 tracks into simultaneous (requires to have a material multitrack).
- Level gauges enable you to check the front noise levels, during and after recording.
Import and export
Import audio files, publish them, and assemble them with other files or new recordings. Export your recordings under various standard sizes.
- Import and export files WAV, AIFF, WITH and Ogg Vorbis.
- Import files MPEG (of which MP2 and MP3) thanks to libmad
- Export MP3 with the library of encoding BLADE (in option).
- Import and to export all the formats of files supported by libsndfile.
- Open data files audio in a rough state (without heading) with the function "Importer Raw".
- Note: Audacity does not support at the present time the formats owners or restrictive such as WMA and AAC.
Edition
- Publish easily with crossing, copying, to stick and erase.
- Cancel in an unlimited way.
- Publish bulky files quickly.
- Publish and mix an unlimited number of tracks.
- Use a graphic tool to modify the samples individually.

Sound quality

- Record until 96kHz.
- The rates of sampling and the formats are converted using a polisher and of a converter of sampling of high-quality.
